more detailed info about rosaline

July 27, 2008

guys. i really appreciate your time reading the “it started funny ends up?” entry. thank you. even if i gave just a little information about rosaline you still took time to read it :)  i decided to read other references about her so i can give more factual informations.

special thanks to my new found friend JAMIR (geez he is forthright and he also writes very well :D )

let me start by telling you guys the reason why i became very into the character of Rosaline. i watched princess hours, its a koreanovela ( i know most of my readers [naks] haven’t watch that and would’nt care to watch it anyway :D ) a character named monique said that people forgot about rosaline (aka georgina hehe) who was the first love of romeo.PERIOD.END OF THE STORY. i did’nt bother to research about her. i assumed Rosaline was hurt for the very reason Romeo suddenly fell inlove with someone else who happens to be Juliet. i assumed that it was a tragic event for Rosaline. It’s all nothing but assumptions. but one night, as i was scanning my notes, something came up, its a mere realization that maybe one way or another the character of Rosaline resembles something in reality. thats the time i did research about her.

Rosaline (from Wikipedia).is an unseen character and niece of Lord Capulet in Shakespears Tragedy Romeo and Juliet (1597). Although silent, her role is important: her lover,Romeo, first spots Juliet while trying to catch a glimpse of Rosaline at a Capulet gathering.

Rosaline remained celibate like what ive said in my previous post she does’nt want ot break her vow for chastity.

Romeo had made poems to persuade Juliet ( he even mentioned the name Rosaline in those sonnets.) analyst said that during the time Romeo woo Rosaline his poetic ability was kinda weak but during Juliet’s time Romeo’s ability considerably improved.some other analysts said that this changes occured because Shakespear improved as a playwright. Shakespear did the draft of Romeo and Juliet in 1591 but decided to published the final copy on 1597 so it is right to say that during those 6 years Shakespear modified the characters. draft (Rosaline) final copy (Juliet).

Question: Why Romeo think twice about Rosaline?

* Rosaline came from a rival family and she sworn for chastity. (tsk tsk when i read about this fussy info. i thought Rosaline was having  identity crisis :) hehe kidding)

From SparkNotes. Rosaline never reciprocated the love of Romeo (fault nmn pala ni Rosaline :D ) Romeo even said this line “When she (Rosaline) dies all the beautiful things in this world will die with her” so do you think na superficial lang ang love ni romeo for rosaline? guess its not.

i guess my assumptions to some extent are wrong . but the love Romeo felt for Rosaline was something beyond words. what he felt for Juliet was’nt a love at first sight as well. it was’nt believable at all. its really fate who determined where a hasty love affair would end.

Thanks for reading this post. comments are welcome and highly appreciated hehe :D
